Friends of Riverside Park

Friends of Riverside Park – Chester le Street

The riverside park is one of Chester le Streets most popular locations, with visitors from all over the region, and further afield to enjoy the facilities at the park – especially the Splash pad which has been a popular new attraction over the last 2 years.  To ensure we harnessed the power of the local area for the future of the park a Friends of Riverside Park group was set up.

FoRP is now a well-established group and a registered charity. Working closely with the local AAP and DCC staff as well as local Councillors to ensure we not only maintain our park but to see future improvements too.

We have already worked on a successful project developing an improved garden area within Riverside Gardens; Memory Garden – which has rejuvenated an area of the gardens that was looking unloved.  The garden has been improved and as a Dementia and family friendly area – there is now wheelchair/pushchair access with artworks, flowers and a human sundial.  A place where we hope memories are rekindled while making new memories with family and friends.  Our main partners in the project were – DCC, AAP Chester le Street & Districts, Groundworks Trust, Northumbria Water, and Tesco Chester le Street.

We all hope you enjoy the space and watch it grow in the future.

We are also now doing work with volunteers in the park – cleaning and painting benches, weeding and planting of flower beds, painting of the gates into the Riverside Gardens for example.

If you would like to join/support or come along and volunteer with activities in the park – Please contact the Secretary by email:  secretaryclsforp@gmail or on FB (page/group are linked together) – just search Friends of Riverside Park Chester le Street
